Questions, answers, and guides.

Everything you need to install SafeCookie, connect a browser, and understand how your local vault works.

Getting started

Install the desktop app, add the browser extension, then keep SafeCookie running while you manage sessions.

  1. Download SafeCookie from safecookie.app and run the installer.
  2. Launch the desktop application and leave it open.
  3. Install the SafeCookie extension in a supported browser.
  4. Choose a website session to store locally, then use pull / push when you need it.

Browser extension

The extension talks to the desktop app on your machine so you can store and restore supported sessions.

Encrypted vault

Your vault stays on your device — private, encrypted, and under your control. SafeCookie uses a local-first approach. We do not have a backdoor to your encrypted database.

Even if a database file is shared for troubleshooting, it remains encrypted. Without the correct key, its contents cannot be read.

How to use SafeCookie

  1. Install & connect — add the extension and launch the desktop app.
  2. Select a website — SafeCookie stores supported session data locally.
  3. One-click login — pull first. After using it, log out from the SafeCookie app. To sign in again, push & login.
  4. Clear session data — remove saved session data when you are finished. Encrypted copies can stay in your local vault if you want to restore later.
  5. Optional 2FA — add supported 2FA setup to manage authentication codes.

Frequently asked questions

Is SafeCookie free?

Yes. SafeCookie is free to use, with no subscription fees or required payments.

Where is my vault data stored?

On your device. SafeCookie is local-first. Your vault is not shared with third-party services, and we do not have a backdoor to the encrypted database.

Does clearing cookies stop all tracking?

No. Clearing cookies alone cannot stop all tracking. SafeCookie currently helps you manage browser sessions; future updates may expand privacy features. Cookie cleanup is one layer, not a complete anti-tracking system.

What should I do if the extension cannot connect?

Make sure SafeCookie is running and the extension is installed. Restart the desktop app, then try again. Check firewall settings if it still fails. Keep the local connection restricted to your own device.

What is the encryption key?

A unique, randomly generated code associated with each session on your device. It is derived from alphanumeric characters, device-specific identifiers, and additional security parameters. A new key is generated for each session.

How can I make SafeCookie even more secure?

Avoid saving passwords in your browser or syncing them only through a cloud account. Use strong unique passwords, enable 2FA, and consider a privacy-focused browser such as Brave. SafeCookie is one layer of protection, not a replacement for strong passwords and safe browsing habits.
